Welcome to my blog. If this is your first time here I suggest you first read my introductory post, since in explains what exactly the purpose of this blog is and why I am writing it the way I am, but to paraphrase this blog is about my experiences as an AmeriCorps member living in New Orleans. I hope to offer a glimpse into what life is like for at least one of the 85,000 or so individuals who sign up for AmeriCorps every year, draw back to curtain on the nonprofit world of which I am now a part, and also hopefully shed a little light on my adopted home of New Orleans.

Beyond that, I hope you find this blog interesting and I invite you to ask questions or make comments, I'll try my best to get to all of those that require my attention in a reasonable fashion.

Thanks again,

Ignatius

Announcing Fringestravaganza 2010!

I don't really get the ship thing
I know this comes right on the heels of my last post, but I wanted to give a preview of what promises to be a thoroughly exhausting, but nonetheless exciting week.

Next week, beginning Wednesday, Nov. 17th, is the 2010 New Orleans Fringe Theater Festival, or as I am calling it: Fringestraviganza 2010!

According to the media blurb the five day festival will feature “63 performing groups and 150 shows,” and I am committing seeing no less than 10, and possibly as many as 16. My intention is go to as many shows as I can, and then share my experiences and impressions during and at the end of each day.

Here is my tentative schedule:

Wednesday 11/17

7:00-The Fifth Charismatic @ Hi-Ho Lounge, 2239 St. Claude Avenue

9:00- Truck Project (only if time)

11:00- A**holes @ Le Chat Noir, 715 Saint Charles Ave
I've already got my tickets, how about you?

Thursday 11/18

7:00- Port/Architect @ Mardi Gras Zone, meet at the corner of Port and Architect Streets

9:00- Options: Izazaga 734, The Liar Show, lie, lay laid, Vespers (only if time)

11:00- Hunter’s Blind @ The Mudlark Public Theatre, 1200 Port St.

Friday 11/19

7:00- Revenge of the Deepwater @ Den of Muses Port St. and Architect St

9:00- The Executioner (only if time) @ Skull Club 1003 N. Spain St

11:00- No Exit @ Byrdie's, 2422-A St. Claude Avenue

Saturday 11/20

3:00- Order of Wolf @ The Mudlark Public Theatre, 1200 Port St.

7:00- Our Man @ AllWays Theatre, 2240 St. Claude Ave.

9:00- Bam Bam Boom! Baby Boom!! FREE @ the Maison, 508 Frenchmen

11:00- Lead Paint Libretto @ Den of Muses Port St. and Architect St

Sunday 11/21

3:00- Burying Barbie @ The Elm Theatre, 220 Julia Street

7:00- Du Fu, Mississippi @ Party World 3621 St. Claude Avenue

11:00- Duo Rococo @ NOLA Candle Factory 4537 North Robertson (at Japonica Street)

I have never seen any of these shows before and I have only a vague idea what any of them are about. A number of them were recommended by Antigravity, a local periodical of which I know absolutely nothing, but it seemed as good a way as any to make some decisions about what to see.

One of the things I hope to do with this blog is expose some of the really great, and reasonably priced, events that take place in the city, and the Fringe Festival seems like as good a place as any to start.
